I've considered charging a booking fee for this type of deal and the "open time" scenario. The fee would go toward the final fee due if the appointment has been completed. If the appointment hasn't been completed due to any issue outside my control, I keep the booking fee and we can start over, if and when they can get their act together.
I'm tired of these companies that have no respect for our time, but I know why.The veterans in this business know why.I won't go into to it here.If you have to ask, then you are part of the problem.

So I got a call for a purchase signing 5:00 pm yesterday for 9:00 am and no one at the agency informed me the docs wouldn't be ready until early in the morning. So this morning I got up early at 6:00 am and got emails saying the docs would be ready in 30 minutes, that attorneys were reviewing them. For a purchase? I thought it was weird and didn't expect to receive the docs because attorneys had them. Sure enough, they cancelled in 10 minutes claiming there was a "MAJOR" (she CAPPED it) snare.

The major snare is that the attorneys wanted more time to run up the bill on little nick nats, that was very clear. Attorneys aren't supposed to be involved in purchase paperwork, it's a red flag the docs won't be ready if you ever hear the bank mention the attorneys are looking at the docs.

Moral of the story is, make sure to ask the agency if the docs are ready for an early morning signing. Otherwise if they're not, I'd highly recommend not accepting the assignment. Not having the docs for an early morning signing is a MAJOR sign they're using you and your time just in case they can get the docs out which is highly unlikely under the circumstances. Whenever they don't bother to give you a heads up the docs won't be arriving that evening, it's a little hint the job may not take place at all.

Sincerely yours,

Notary's Life
