Lots of reasons: They can't be bothered, they have nobody in their database in your area, their regular notary in your area is busy, they didn't bother looking in their database, they use SC to keep options open, they have a sweetheart deal with SC. In other words--who knows? If you are in a TCs database, but always get the signing thru SC, you might want to give TC a very, very diplomatic call about this, understanding that TC might get huffy with you because they think that you are trying to steal their favorite SCs business. Caution advised.

Just curious...but why exactly do escrow/title companies use signing companies in the first place when they can go directly to the notary databases easily available, contract director with the notary, and save some money? I just did a signing where the SC charged $350 (two loans) and my cut was just 1/3 of that! Is it a matter of ease or billing or what?

This signing was indeed an exception as I usually get at least 60-70% of what they charge the customer, but makes me wonder about starting my own SC (even though the headache is probably not worth it).
