Would you cash a check for a total stranger?

Doing a signing for someone who you cannot verify by NR or 123 or a high BBB rating is much much worse. Not only are you out your fee, but you expend time and effort both doing the job and "collecting".

TRUST has to be EARNED - unknowns prepay to a paypal account.

Well, I finally got paid by the Mortgage Consulting Firm. On May 9, 2012, I received a check for my Feb. 2 signing.

I was on them most every day, calling and speaking pleasantly to various employees, leaving countless voice mails for the guy who booked me. I got on his cell phone and he was very apologetic, then finally sent me a check.

I will never work with them again; this was waaay too much trouble.

Good luck to you.

Hi Bruce. Your post caught my eye because I live very near that area and know that street well.....it is the same block where Gold's Gym parking lot is. Yip, I think we are talking little apartment buildings there, and I agree, the looks of it is not so promising. But please let us know if by any chance you do get paid by this shady- looking outfit.

On Feb. 2, 2012 I accepted a $100 signing assignment from the Mortgage Consulting Firm. I did the job and sent the documents in, then didn't hear from them. On Mar. 9 I emailed them; got a response from Tom Reidy apologizing for the delay, asking for a W9 and an optional invoice (which I faxed them), and promising to send a check immediately.

Then nothing.

I called on 3/20. Got Tom Reidy's VM. I left a message and got no response. Same on 3/22 and 3/26. On 3/27 I called their toll-free number and spoke with Mina, who said she'd take my message "upstairs." I also forwarded Tom Reidy's email of 3/9 to Tom Pfirrman, the President of the company. No response.

On 3/29 I called again. VM again. Now I've initiated a complaint with the BBB.

I looked up their address, 937 Cole Ave Suite #4, Los Angeles, CA 90038, on Google Maps. It's an apartment building in Hollywood. Oboy.

I'll let you know if I ever get paid, but I suggest avoiding these deadbeats like the plague.
