I avoid doing business with companies that do not have an address or phone number posted on their website. Some only have an email address or a contact us message form. Sometimes the company name and location can be found buried in their Terms and Conditions section.

I think the best companies have an About Us section with photos and brief bios of the principals or team members. It is nice to know who you are doing business with. And a BBB Member logo is nice to see.

You can trace who owns the website by doing a "Who Is" search at http://who.godaddy.com/

Notaries working from home may not wish to post their home address, for privacy or security reasons. But you can rent a mailbox and list that as your business address.

There is a problem with website scraping and harvesting software that scans websites to extract contact information to create lists for spam emails or spam phone calls. I post an anti-spam, no data harvesting allowed notice on my website Terms and Conditions and report spammers to Internet Service Providers. Some have lost their email account for violating terms of service which prohibit sending spam.

A simple method to defeat automated software from harvesting your contact data is to remove all your contact data from website text. Instead, create a graphic image of your contact information and display that. Humans can read the graphic image and will be able to contact you. Simple harvesting software only scans website text and will not be able to extract the contact information from the graphic image.

Does anyone have an opinion about websites for signing / title companies that don't have addresses? Are they more likely to cheat people? Or, are they just hiding from nuissances? In my opinion, it leaves a bad taste in my mouth if someone is hiding their identity or location.

Additionally, many notaries on our site hide their address. Those notaries get about 20% less traffic to their listings than comparable listings that give an address. Sure, we don't want psychos coming to our house at 2am, but very few notaries have that problem.
