Can you please let us know how many signings you've done? Thus far I find it hard to trust this Alice person because her communications and emails aren't the norm.

She just sent me an impersonal one line email asking if I can take a closing Monday at 9:00 am and never tried to call. She didn't respond to my email I sent later that afternoon until Saturday morning. She sent the email without my name I found very abnormal in the industry.

Alice didn't seem to know much about the signing that it was same day funding requiring fax backs for a non-owner. She has yet to respond late Saturday afternoon if she will pay me an additional $25 to accommodate the fax backs.

She seemed to use a con on me last time I inquired as to her payment practices claiming she needed my knowledge of my city she was going to take a vacation in but she never followed up with any questions which I found strange. I just inquired about when she would send payment for a June 5th payment and she responded she sent it on the 26th and to let her know if I don't receive the check by Tuesday. Why wouldn't I receive the check? There's no reason to anticipate my not receiving the check in the mail, the U.S. mail's very dependable.

The other unusual thing about Alice is that she sat on my non-response into Saturday and then assigned it to me leading me to believe she couldn't find anyone but myself. Normal agencies search for someone immediately if they don't hear back from a signing agent within 10 minutes if at all.

I have worked for Alice on several occasions. I have never, ever had a problem with her. She is a very nice lady and cares about us out there in the field. She wants you to call her just to make sure you are ok after the signing. She pays in 30 days or sooner. I don't get a lot of work from her, but I don't hesitate when she calls.

Sincerely yours,

Alice called today and when she did I thought she was from another agency I worked for a long time ago with the same name. She proceeded to send me a confirmation that had deducted $10 from our agreement. It may have been an honest error on her part but other red flags included a bare boned confirmation with no info except the borrowers contact info. Alice did provide her email and company logo. She does have a website but it seems very basic. I noted her email address was sbcglobal, not her business name. Additionally, I could find no good things written anywhere on the forum, a few incidents from 2009 a while back.

Within 10 minutes of accepting the assignment I let her know I was declining and the reasons why. Alice proceeded to call me multiple times leaving me a voice mail (and called again after she left the vm). She sent two more emails and just seemed disrespectful of my decision. I don't see why she can't find another notary. Many agencies call with a 2.5 hour window prior to the signing. She violated the oral agreement by undercutting the agreed upon fee and I have every right to decline under those circumstances.

Sincerely yours,

Notary's Life

I did two for Alice earlier this year that I politely inquired about at the 45 day mark. Alice immediately responded with an apology, saying she had experienced a death in the family, and said she would get the payments out right away. I received payment in full at 60 days.

I then rated Above and Beyond Closings on Notary Rotary's Signing Central - I think I gave it 3 out of 5 stars, siting the late pay. Alice then posted her own 5 STAR rating about her own company, with a notation stating that she pays in 30 days, provided the notary sends in a W-9. So the implication was that I had neglected to do that. I changed my rating to a 1 star because of this, with a notation that I had late pay issues even though I had submitted my W-9 even before completing the assignment.

That experience told me a lot about this company.

Above and Beyond has been written about on this forum before for the same thing. Always check the forum before you take the job or after you take the job, you can always give it back. You're not going to get paid anyway, so give the job back.
