I believe cheaper gas and sales do help to make the dollar stretch a little further. One has to be disciplined so as not to see cheaper prices as a license to overspend or run up credit cards. That's easy to do. I was in an outlet store and saw a shirt in my favorite color, marked down to $7.99. I thought, "Well, it's ONLY eight bucks and it is my favorite color".....but then I thought to myself...I said "Self...eight bucks is where this starts, but where will it end?". $8 here, $5 dollars there and before I know it, I would have spent $60 or $70 unnecessarily. So I put the shirt back and left. I decided from that point that I don't need another stitch of clothes so I was not buying ANYTHING else until I needed to...no matter how great the deal.

Gas prices in nearby Kansas City, Missouri are under $1.40 per gallon. They are higher in Kansas than Missouri because of higher gas taxes ($.434 compared to $.36). Kansas likes to state that they have more miles of paved road than any other state except California and Texas. That also means someone is having to pay for these and we pay much of it with the higher gas taxes. According to Energy API the national tax now averages $.47 per gallon with 12 states over $.50.

Anyway, it's nice to have the lower costs at the pump. Unfortunatly we may be spending far more than these gas prices for Detroit's problems.

As one person explained to me if you are a biblical person this might well make sense. If not please just consider it an opinion.

I'll make this short and sweet. During Biblical times product drove the economy. (you traded what you had with someone who needed it and they had what you needed and so on) This is where we are in trouble. Our products no longer drive our economy. Money has been driving money and therefore this is the doom to our economy. Product no longer drives our economy, so until we get back to the basics we will probably stay in this mess if history is any indicator or how our economy should work.

He also claimed that society would grind to a stop within the next few years. The stop might be represented by all business closing down. After half a year of time at a standstill, a new system of life would start where money was no longer used. I'm not sure I believe all this, but the banking system, if it continues, will not be anything like what it used to be.

The lecturer also claimed that we would be able to teleport by the end of 2008. I am not seeing this yet. He claims that we would meet aliens and they would teach us to teleport ourselves or do it for us. Only god knows where they would take us though. We might end up in another galaxy.

This is all bizarre information I received watching the lecture. We'll see how much of it is true and how much of it was an exageration.

These are interesting thoughts you bring up. Regarding the Mayan Calendar, here is a website to read MORE than I'm sure you will want to read on a planet that will orbit or pass by earth around 2012 and possibly knock earth off it's axis at which time few will likely survive. Information in the article (nearly to the bottom of the page) explains how the Mayan Calendar ends with 2012 and the opinion of why. http://loveforlife.com.au/node/101
I am pasting in the portion of the article that speaks of the Mayan Calendar:
NAMES FOR PLANET X

If you're confused about all the names of Planet X, he listed them so as to clear up the confusion.
Planet X, Wormwood, Nibiru, The Red Star, the Blue Star, Fiery Messenger, The Comet of Doom. The Tenth Planet. The Greeks called it Nemisis. The Babalonians and Mesopatamians called it the Marduke. The ancient Hebrews called it the Winged Globe. Lastly, the 12th Planet.

The reason they speculate it was called the Twelfth Planet is because the Summerains used to count the sun and the earth's moon as planets. If you were to start doing some research under some of these names there would probably be more to learn about it's past encounters with the earth. Once you realize what these names symbolize and that they are all talking about the same planet, it clears up a lot of things.

The reason many thought that it would come in 2012 was because the Mayan calender ends in 2012. But then they realized you have to have a correct starting point, which they've come to believe the Mayans didn't. It is actually sooner than was previously thought. This is why many have revised the date they believed it would arrive. The projected date spoken of now, is May 15th 2003, give or take a few weeks.

Planet X will swing between the Earth and the Sun. It will depend on exactly where it comes through, how much damage will be done. Everytime it has passed by Earth it has not caused major damage. It is not just the turmoil of passing the earth the first time, but it will swing around the the Sun and then come back by the earth again for a second pass. Depending on the speed, it can go around the Sun in one day.
****************
But as you can see by reading, they predicted the planets arrival in 2003. Somewhere in the article I read that the planet is nearing and can be viewed with the naked eye in the southern hemisphere.

**********************
Take it all for what it is worth to you.

In addition, as you speak of no money and returning to the bartering system, you may be quite interested in reading a book titled Celestine Prophecy by James Redfield. It also speculates what occurred that caused the strange disappearance of either the Mayan or Incan Indians. I believe the book is fictional but it certainly would be a nice concept or model that I wish we as the human race could evolve into. :)

Prices are going down everywhere. New cars are cheaper, gas is half price, stores are having sales. Does this all make life easier? Now you can accept notary jobs farther away without any financial pain for gas money.

I'm wondering how low it will get and how long this will last. Its ridiculously low now. I previously thought it would get to $2.20 and then stop, but I was wrong. Now I'm bettng on $1.70. With the world economy in shambles, I doubt that gas prices will shoot up above $4.00 again for several years.
