Many years ago I left personalized pens with the signers, but have found that a business card simply works better for repeat business.

So, I prefer keeping my pens and have found that the cheaper pens get returned. I use a Bic 6-sided one (so it stays put) with removable caps. I pocket the caps. I personally use an inexpensive Pilot click-pen, so I can use it as a pointer with the ink tip in or click it out to sign. When I'm packing up, I drop the pen caps on the table and start packing everything else. This ALWAYS cues them to return the pens.

A small box of single use sanitizer wipes keeps the pens clean and is a lot cheaper than constantly replacing them--or running short.

If you don't value your time and experience, nobody else will.

I buy wholesale pens like "papermate" etc. .... as the borrowers always tend to keep the pens....and i can't afford to buy fancy pens.
It works great this way!
I used to have my "lucky" pen (which i never shared with anyone) and kept it in a special box (:)) but even that one disappeared one day :)
so, no more fancy- shmency writing tools.

Top pen for me is the Pilot Precise V5 RT. I carry 4 of them - 2 in blue and 2 in black.

I use those disinfectant wipes on the group of pens I carry all the time....we used to be in the restaurant industry and are avid hand-washers based upon our training and what we've learned. The average Joe sixpack just doesn't know (or want to know) how funky human beings really are.... I have one regular client who I gave his own thumb print ink because he was so freaked out about it.....

Wash those hands!

Just pay attention to what people do with your pens. I have seen borrowers put them in their ears, nose, mouth, and scratch themselves with them. On occasion their little children have picked them up and put them in their mouths. Of course there is the dreaded coughing and sneezing which also comes into contact with them.

Suffice to say, I have been through quite a few pens in the past eleven years. At this point, I should probably consider getting some stock. I also always keep a bottle of antiseptic lotion with me. Other than that, I just leave the pens behind.

Ah, if only a pen could talk.

What a great topic! Thanks Joe. I use Pilots G-2's. I love them. They too have refills. I keep a platic gallon size baggie in my briefcase full of pens. In about 4 weeks time I am always down to just a few. Some I give away if they ask the others seem to just disappear on their own.

This is a great topic!...what a nerd, I do love my pens!

I use a Uniball Vision Elite .8mm....they come in black and blue (and many other colors for other uses) and you can get refills rather inexpensively compared to the actual pen purchase.

I prefer to have signers utilize the pen I provide (usually the blue)as it makes my work easily identifiable should someone ask about a particular document down the road....

Now maybe you can advise me on how to keep people from swiping them from me.... I actually give them to people when they ask...and they do ask....wish I could get them with my company name and number...for me it's all about performance....

A carpenter has his hammer, a plumber his wrench. Do you have a favorite PEN? Do you supply the pens? Do you hand out personalized pens to signers?
