Tip: Confirming your appointment

Confirming your appointment
If a signing company assigns a job to you, they will give you the phone number and address of the borrower. The loan documents are usually fedexed to the notary, although sometimes they are sent to the borrower. Before you go to the appointment, its smart to call the borrower and confirm the date, time and place of the signing. Also, the notary should confirm the rate, APR, prepayment penalty, payment amounts, loan amount, and the payoffs documented in the HUD-1 Settlement statement. Its important the the borrower doesn't have a problem with the main numbers, otherwise you will be sitting in their dining room for hours listening to them either trying to reach an off-duty lender, or talking endlessly to the lender. If the borrower doesn't like the numbers, find out early, so you can cancel the appointment before you waste too much time.
