RI Other Information of Interest
To become a notary in Rhode Island you need to be a resident of the state of Rhode Island as well as a registered voter.
The majority of other states do not have voter registration requirements. Though not required, a Rhode Island notary should verify the identities of the signers by requesting identification, preferably with a photo and signature like a drivers license or passport. A Marine Protest is a notary act that may be unique to Rhode Island, and this state has a separate fee for this particular notary act. Rhode Island has such low notary fees, that there doesn't seem like there is any reason to want to do freelance notary work there.

Dual State commission information
If you are a Massachusetts notary and Massachusetts resident or a Connecticut notary, you can not get a dual commission in Rhode Island.
