Minnesota is unusual in that notary renewals must be done between December 01st, and January 31st of each year. Another interesting piece of information is that a notary can notify a change of their address simply by logging in to the secretary of state's website. The most interesting feature of Minnesota is that a notary can print their notary commission online. Here are the state's official words about that: "Your new, updated or duplicate commission certificate can be printed online. Heavy grade paper is recommended. Note: There will be a slight delay in printing the certificate."

A Minnesota Notary's job requires them to take acknowledgments, administer oaths & affirmations, take & certifiy depositions, witness or attest signatures, taken & certify acknowledgments as well as written instruments (documents), and record notarial protests (an antiquated act). You can apply to become authorized as an e-notary. Simply visit the Minnesota secretary of state's website to learn how to become an e-notary. The filing fee to become a notary or renew your commission is $120. There is also a $20 fee to register in your county. Once appointed, you can print your new Minnesota notary commission online. Keeping a notary journal is optional, but recommended.
