There is no notary public fee schedule in Maine. The only statutory reference to notary fees can be found in 4 M.R.S.A. Section 958 which specifies that a charge of $1.50 in the course of a lawsuit to provide for the notification of the various parties, making of a certificate and taking a record of the proceedings. For all other work, the Notary Public has the right to determine the fees to be charged without restriction.

A Notary may perform a marriage in Maine! South Carolina and Florida also allow notaries to perform marriages.

Notaries must be sworn into office by a Dedimus Justice. A Dedimus Justice is appointed by the Governor of Maine for life. Applications for this unique position are handled by the Maine notary office.
