Health Care Power of Attorney

Function: noun

A power of attorney that specializes in addressing the health care issues of the grantor. The patient / grantor appoints an agent to make health care decisions should the grantor become incapable of making health care decisions. Common themes include what to do if the grantor becomes incapacitated: what types of medical care to give, how long to prolong the grantor's life if they are in a coma for a long period of time, what types of drugs they are willing to take, etc.
