Deposition

Function: noun

A Deposition is a sworn testimony of a witness taken before trial and held out of court with no judge there. The witness must taken an Oath preceding the Deposition. The witness will be asked if they swear to tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth. Notaries commonly swear in deponents. Taking Oaths is a standard notary act in most states.
