Appraiser

Phonetics: ap·prais·er    \ə-'prāz

Function: noun

A person qualified by education, training, and experience who estimates the value of real property and personal property. A person has to take classes to become an appraiser, and then it is common to apprentice in the profession before having your own practice. Appraisers typically charge several hundred per job, but the work only requires a very short drive, a quick assessment of the property, and then some calculations to determine the property's value.
