I received an interesting proposition as an accountant, "If I send you pdf checks, can you print them on computer check stock and mail on my behalf?" Sure, I thought. Got the details and drew up a General Service Agreement. Sent it to Mr. Beecroft for review and received it back with his "electronic signature" witnessed by notary "electronically".

I was not convinced because the request he had next was sketchy and not in the scope of work indicated in the Agreement. So, I searched the web for his name, email, phone and address. I found that he provided an address that is used by 26 other companies & his is not listed as one. I was unable to find any information on his company or himself. So... I searched the notary's name and WAHLAH! Found her on 123Notary! I called her and explained her electronic signature was used on this contract, and emailed her the same.

Turns out she did NOT electronically sign the document and does not know Mr. Beecroft of BrasPro. Although he was looking for an Accountant and not a Notary, he did use a notary's name for his own purposes. Again, sketchy.

Moral of the story... WE HAVE TO WATCH OUT FOR EACH OTHER! Remain diligent and when you suspect fraud, do what you can to help stamp it out. Unfortunately, we do not know the real identity of this scammer so he will likely continue on his merry way.
