I see it's been over a seven months with no response. I am not sure if you are still pursuing this as a profession or not still, and I can maybe understand why the lack of response. Possibly because these are questions that we all had at the very beginning, and we have all made those determinations based on our goals.

A quick and and honest answer sounds like this. If you are serious about using your commission to sustain a full time business, membership into the established state and national notary organizations, as well as proper training are essential. It is easy to get the consensus on which organizations are right for you, and there are no shortcuts.

Even more important, however, is forming clear cut goals as well as creating a living document, a road map, in the form of a detailed business plan. With these in place first, the rest will be easy to discover. Without these, no amount of training or memberships will be of much value in the long run. Even if you don't join, most of these organizations can help you with the first few steps. It is right there for you to read. ;)

Is it necessary to join a notary association? I have only been able to get information on NNA and American Society of Notaries and American Association. I have not been able to find any positive comments on the NNA. The others I can't really find any information on they just promise to provide resources but I don't know how helpful they are. I know that the information the NNA was providing for the state of MI was inaccurate.

Also, does the loan signing certification only cover loan signing. Michigan does not distinquish between loan signing agents and notaries. I want to know if the course will cover what I need.

Thanks for your responses.
