I started doing Sand Castle work back in April (2014) and I have to say it's a blessing. The jobs are easy, and there is a lot of flexibility in what/where. They answer your calls, pay on time, and are just generally WAY more pleasant to work with than most of the closing companies. You can bunch the jobs together without a boatload of*****about anything from this company.

I have been doing inspections & door knocks for a few years now -- you just have to make sure it's in your area and most are very flexible to be handled when it's convenient for YOU.

I was just emailed by Sand Castle Field Services www.sandcastlefs.com

I'm going to fill out their application and see how it works out.

Good luck to others supplementing their income this way.

I live in a very rural area and don't usually do drive by inspections because they don't pay enough and I can't get enough in one area to make it worth the drive, but I don't mind doing door knocks or site audits for companies that work with the credit bureau. I also do machinery insections etc. All of the latter tend to pay more and since I have a couple days to complete them I can work them around loan closings. I work mostly with Sand Castle and they will pay me a little more if I'm willing to chase one out in the boonies. They usually loose money by paying me more but they say it's worth it to keep their client happy.

Linda, I am in Texas. Would you mind sharing the name of that company so I can see if on my list already?

I actually enjoy this work. I've worked for one company for over a year now. All my inspections (delequencies/foreclosures) come in downloads with deadlines. I have four in my que from 5/6/11 be completed by 5/10/11. So, I can pretty much make my own schedule for doing them. These are all within 3 miles of my location. They will take an average 15 minutes each and then maybe 30 minutes to upload photos and do the reports for all four. That works out to $100 for an hour and a half to two hours work. I do 20+ of these a month. Some, of course, require a little more mileage but I figure it all averages out. I get paid on the same day each month. For me, I'd rather do four inspections w/ reports in 1 1/2-2 hours for $100 than print 250 pages of documents, travel to the signing, spend 1 1/2-2 hours signing, then rechecking and preparing them for mailing and dropping them off, for the same $100. Of course, I'm retired and this is a nice supplement for my income and not nearly as stressful as loan docs.

To each his own. : D

I would consider the TOTAL time involved, as compared to the pay received. Getting there, doing the work, and reporting the results.

MORE importantly: What is the legal exposure? Suppose I take some pictures but miss a corner with a cracked foundation? I doubt if there is an E&O available for this function. Nor is there a 123 or NR database of the payment history of the client.

Tread carefully down this path.....

I'm still performing these and am looking at doing more. Like B.C. Notary stated, it normally takes me 15-20 minutes onsite to gather the information I need and snap three photos. The more you do the better you are at gathering information quickly and accurately.

There are several Yahoo & Google groups that are dedicated to inspection work which includes this type of inspection, as well as other types that are more involved.

Real short answer, JerseyGuy: no.

The term "physical inspection" is used for a lot of different types of services (including doctors - and I think (?) you're wondering if these include the type where the structural integrity and functioning of elements of the building (roof, furnace, etc) are inspected and reported on? Those (at least here in MI) are performed by licensed building contractors.

I've done 2 before. Basically, I went to a business, took pictures of the scanner, computer, file cabinets, etc. and emailed the pictures back. I believe it's for the credit bureaus. It was to make sure that all confidential information is kept confidential. It took about 15 minutes and they paid $30.00.

Hello everybody. I've been browsing this forum for a while, and learning a great deal as I go along.

I see "physical inspections" discussed here and there, and I am a little confused about the nature of this type of work. Is this simply taking pictures of the house and proving occupancy? Or is it closer to documenting the actual physical condition of the property?

I am wondering if this comes dangerously close to home inspections that are utilized to evaluate the home as allowed in most real estate transactions?

I am currently awaiting my notary commission in New Jersey.
