Raised my right hand at a signing once (older dad with heavy metal girl - red spiked hair, tatoos, the whole nine yards)...asked her to raise her right hand, looked at her and said "you swear these statements are true, so help you God?" - she replied with a shrug "well, I don't believe in God, but whatever.."...set me back a couple paces, and since then I now limit it to "you swear these statements are true, so help you?"

What are your experiences with affirmations. I once notarized a lady who needed to take an oath. She refused to swear under oath. I said that she could affirm instead of swearing. However, the paperwork only had the oath wording which included the word God in it. Does anyone else have any interesting experiences of this sort?
