Alabama Notary Fees
According to Section 36-20-6 in the Legislature's Code of Alabama Information. These are the allowed fees for notarial acts and notarizations.

Acknowledgments $5 
Oaths $5 
Demand acceptance and payment of bills. $5 
Jurats $5 
Exercise other powers according to commercial usage or the laws of this state, as may belong to Notaries Public. $5 
Proof of Instruments $5

Identification
Please make sure that the signer has current, government issued photo identification, otherwise it may not be possible to do acknowledgments for that signer. Some states allow the use of credible witnesses, but we have no information on whether Alabama allows this or not. Jurats require the signer to swear under oath (affirmation) before the notary public.

AL Other Information of Interest
The Secretary of State does not commission Alabama notaries. For information regarding appointment and commissioning; term of office; fee of probate judge for issuance of notary commissions; please report to the Secretary of State probate judge. A competent number of notaries for each county in Alabama shall be appointed and commissioned by the probate judges of the several counties of the state and shall hold office for four years from the date of their commissions. The probate judges shall collect a fee of $1.00 for each notary commission issued. The probate judges shall additionally report to the Secretary of State the name, county, date of issuance & expiration date of the commission of each notary public appointed and commissioned under this section.

There is a division of the secretary of state that handles authentications as well. This division can send proof that a notary really is commissioned by the state of Alabama or public official who is authorized to perform notary acts. This division offers Certifications and Apostilles.

Dual State Notary Commission Information
If you are a Florida notary residing in Florida, a Georgia notary residing in Georgia, a Mississippi notary residing in Mississippi, or a Tennessee notary residing in Tennessee, please ask the Alabama notary division if you are eligible to apply to become an Alabama Notary Public. Many states allow a dual commission if you live near the border and work or have a business in the state that you are applying for a commission in.
